The Ministry of Economy and Planning is one of the Governing Authorities of Saudi Arabia and part of the Cabinet. The role of the ministry is to establish and execute five-year plans that represent the country’s long-term economic goals.
The Ministry shall be considered as the supporting body for the relevant authorities and the government parties’ in the strategic and operational planning, at the direction of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs or in the case of the parties’ request. The Ministry also provides the necessary information from data, statistics, and studies to the relevant authorities, and works to harmonize the sectorial and regional plans between the relevant authorities.
In February 2020, The Ministry of Economy and Planning signed an agreement with the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA), represented by the National Information Center, to host MEP data center on NIC government cloud. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E Mohammed bin Maziad Al-Tuwaijri, Minister of Economy and Planning, and H.E Dr Abdullah Bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of SDAIA, along with a number of officials of both organizations. The Minister highlighted the move, citing the positive outcome for the MEP and the data center. This move marks an important step in the digital transformation process of the Kingdom in general and is compatible with the government’s plans and directions, as well as the underlying support it gives to Saudi Vision 2030.
It was a great pleasure for The Middle East Readers Information Center (MERIC), to participate in one of the steps of the Saudi development movement through the implementation of the Canadian Knowledge GEMZ Platform. The Platform serves all missions and roles of MEP as it provides necessary information resources and databases needed for all MEP research and administrational activities.
We are honored to be a part that serves MEP in socio-economic planning and development that promotes sustainable growth of the KSA economy and co-creates a coherent and overarching national development agenda, and facilitating the implementation of the 2030 Vision Realization Programs.
